Get Your Glow On

July 31st, 2015

Our Garden Spa, tucked away behind the Greenhouse, echoes the seasonal rhythm of the garden. During the winter slumber, our gardeners are as busy as ever, pruning and planting, preparing for the garden’s re-awakening in summer.

To have healthy-looking, glowing skin in summer, you also need to put in a little extra effort in winter, and exfoliating is a great way to kickstart the skin’s renewal system. The winter chills outdoors, and the dry air of heaters indoors can take its toll on the body’s biggest organ.

Gently scrubbing off dry, damaged skin not only “awakens” the fresh skin underneath, but also helps with blood circulation and allows skincare products to penetrate the skin more deeply. We use Africology Exfoliating Cream and Africology Body Scrub in the spa, but there are many simple recipes to make a body scrub at home using natural products like olive oil, green tea, oats, papaya and even coffee grounds.

Exfoliating is an important part of our signature treatment, the Hammam Water Ritual. The therapist uses a kese, a hand woven mitt, to exfoliate the whole body before a generous amount of moisturising body balm is massaged into the skin, leaving it tingling and smooth.

Another hamman offering is The Honey & Salt Scrub treatment which also includes exfoliation. We make a dead simple body scrub mixing equal amounts of table salt and eucalyptus honey harvested from our hives. This rejuvenating body scrub can off course be made at home, just remember to use raw or unpasteurised honey.

The Garden Spa is open 7 days a week from 8h00 -17h00. For bookings, enquiries or gift vouchers phone: + 27 (0) 21 863 3852
