What’s on in October?

September 26th, 2024

Spring dreams

In October, we take our cue from poet C. Louis Leipoldt (1880–1947) and revel in the most beautiful month, with Garden Day celebrations taking centre stage. The arrival of warmer weather also signals our most revered garden worker – the Cape honeybee – with Babylonstoren bee whisperer Arné Stander strapping in for the sweet season.

Celebrate Garden Day

Join the Babylonstoren team on 20 October as they throw open the garden gates to celebrate Garden Day. Enjoy a sunset tour of the Babylonstoren garden on an exclusive guided walk, followed by a flame-to-fork harvest braai at the Greenhouse Restaurant. You can also join the team on the day to create a head-turning flower crown using fynbos and greenery. Spaces are limited and booking essential.

Draw up a chair …

Why not take a piece of the Babylonstoren garden to cherish in your home for generations to come? The Babylonstoren Garden tablecloth is the newest addition to our trousseau chest, inspired by the ever-changing tapestry of the garden. It is made from pure linen and was designed as a collector’s piece to be passed down for generations – to bring the Babylonstoren garden to the dining table as a canvas for conversation and togetherness.

“The intent with the design was to capture the sensory, tactile experience of wandering through the garden – with all senses engaged, from the feel of soil beneath one’s feet to the aromatic scent of herbs hanging in the air, all enveloped in a tapestry of texture.” – Sanet Fau Stegmann, Artist & designer.

Quench your thirst in the lead-up to summer with a signature refresher from Babylonstoren. In October, you can buy any six bottles of wine or four alcohol-free drinks and get the lowest priced one for free. What better way to stock up for the thirsty season ahead?

All hail the King – and Queen

Babylonstoren’s flagship red blend, the royal Nebukadnesar 2022, has claimed its rightful place among the best Bordeaux blends in SA. It scored a whopping 95 points in the recent Cape Bordeaux Red Blend Report, convened by Winemag.

Our beloved Cap Classique, the Sprankel 2018, was also awarded gold in the esteemed 2024 Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, held in Sardinia earlier this year. No surprise, as the 2018 Sprankel was awarded 5 stars and crowned as Platter’s best Cap Classique for 2024 too! Cheers to that!

Sister act

Did you know Babylonstoren shares its farming foundations with a few other estates across the globe? In the UK, The Newt in Somerset is a working estate with splendid gardens, woodland, farmland and cyder orchards to explore. And in Italy’s enigmatic Chianti hills, Vignamaggio organic farm has been in operation since 1404. Vineyards, olive groves, vegetable gardens and luxuriant fruit orchards cover the more than 400 hectares under the Tuscan sun.

Heading to the land of windmills, tulips and stroopwafels soon? A newly opened experience awaits visitors at Over-Amstel Boerderij in The Netherlands. Over-Amstel is located on the Amstel River in the Duivendrechtse Polder. The farm was built in 1894 but has recently been restored to its former glory. Over-Amstel Boerderij is a working farm that invites visitors to enjoy all the goodness of the surroundings.
